One thing worth understanding about how it gets you there: swirskii takes thrips at the first larval stage, and second instars fight it off. So it works on the generation coming up behind the one in front of you, and the count falls gradually rather than overnight. Warm and humid is where this species pulls ahead of the alternatives — a grow tent is close to its ideal conditions, which is why it is the sensible answer there rather than the expensive one. Whitefly is a different case: get swirskii in ahead of it. The published trials that worked were all preventive releases, and the one that dropped mites onto established whitefly hot-spots did not shift them.

Field Notes

Amblyseius swirskii

Bottle

The beneficial

Species

Amblyseius swirskii

What it eats

Hunts

Thrips larvae, particularly first instar.
